Declan's lead about where we might uncover tips on where to hunt for Aster was solid. If I had learned one thing about Declan was that he certainly wasn't the type of person to just wait around. He wanted to help me find Aster right away. I couldn't help but wonder if he was motivated by something other than the promise of his pack mates release. Did he also have a vendetta against Aster? One that predated my existence?

"You okay?" Declan asked as we dragged our motorcycles out of view right outside of Moonside.

"Yeah." I nodded. "This is what I do, remember?"

He grinned. "Of course. You led a whole team of your own on missions just like this."

It was the one thing I'd probably miss about the Institute.

As we progressed in Moonside, the only sound to be heard was the fading echo of our footfalls, muffled by a blanket of thick fog. We kept close together, each studying the dark shadows beneath an array of broken streetlights. As we advanced through silent streets, a heavy feeling of unease hung in the air like a storm cloud poised to unleash its fury at any moment.

We moved through the dark, winding streets of Moonside, the musty scent of old buildings and decaying walls following us like an ever-present companion. The shadows were alive with secrets as we passed by alleyways and doorways that promised danger ahead. I could feel the eyes of the locals watching us from within their hidden corners, waiting to see if we were foolish enough to cause problems here. Moonside had a police force of their own, but we weren’t looking to cross paths with them.

Finally, we reached a dead end in a poorly lit area of town. Before us was a large wooden door guarded by two brutish looking persons. They stood there, silent and intimidating; it was clear that this was some kind of private residence or place of business.

"This is it," Declan said quietly.

We approached the door cautiously, not wanting to alert anyone inside to our presence until it was necessary. As soon as we knocked, one of the guards stepped forward and opened the door just enough for one of us to slip through. We entered a dimly-lit room filled with various supernatural creatures—most appeared to be lower-level vampires or shifters.

Once we were inside, a number of things were going on. It seemed to be some type of trading station for supernaturals as I witnessed a number of items and objects being exchanged from one group to another.

"Hey," Declan called out to the guard. "Who can I talk to about the recent blaze set on the other trading compound?"

The guard pointed. "That man. He was there. He got away."

We all followed his gesture to a man standing in the far corner of he room shifting his weight from one foot to another and avoiding eye contact with everyone else.

"He doesn't look well," I notated.

The guard laughed. "He's a druggie. I don't know how much you're going to get out of him.
