Proofing Paper

Even more economical paper can be used for making proof or ‘tester’ prints. A decorator’s lining paper, for wallpapering walls that are to be painted, works very well. A roll of mid-priced lining paper from a DIY store will provide many test prints very cheaply and is comparable to 200gsm weight papers. This paper will not give you the bright colours of a finished print, but it is good-natured, sturdy and will allow you to check your print for cutting corrections and give you a general idea of colours and where to place shadings, etc. It is also useful for checking that your block is the correct dampness and printing at its best before you move on to better paper.
