Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small.

Create a Reason for Completion
The single most powerful motivator for me to clean the house is knowing that people are coming for a visit or a party. I become incredibly effective in short amounts of time and take a higher level of pride in creating beauty than I would if just cleaning for myself.
If you find you need something to motivate your activity, think of ways to create a serious spark.
Some ideas:
Want your house to be cleaner and more organized?
Invite someone over soon for a simple visit.
Want to get that attic finally, truly sorted out? Consider having a Gang of Ten Party (see Specific Ideas).
If that doesn't feel right, set a date in the future and invite people over for a specific event to be held in the space.
If the space is not a good one for a gathering, invite them over anyway and show off the newly cleaned space.
Be realistic about the date and be bold in sending out invitations for a situation that is not yet real.
Set your timer on a daily basis, ask for help if necessary and get to it!
Wanting to learn Italian at last?
Open a savings account earmarked "Trip to Italy." Put ten dollars in it as a talisman of the fact that the savings will happen (ten dollars a day perhaps?). Set a date for the future trip. The minute you can afford it, buy your airline tickets. Make yourself accountable to the vision of joy and accomplishment that you hold so dear. Get going on learning that language!
A Reason for Completion is more than a designated deadline. It is a time frame that exists outside of yourself and can include both your finances and other friends. Use these facts to galvanizing effect!
