Chapter Ten
Andrea woke up alone in Kennethâs bed. There was safety in the weight of the covers on her legs, in the quiet of the room. In the haze between wake and sleep, she wasnât sure which was the dream world. The smell of him lingered on the pillow. Light streamed in through the window and the flames in the fireplace had died.
There was something to be said about the aftermath of sex. With the tension eased from her body, sheâd been able to fall into a deep sleep, which helped her stress levels come down immensely. She could say without a doubt this was the best sheâd felt since before that night in the swamp.
As reality trickled over the dream, she became more fully aware of her surroundings. Kenneth had left folded clothes on the dresser for her. The jeans and stylish gray sweater werenât hers, but they fit perfectly. After her shower the night before, her hair had dried into a mass of curls. She combed her fingers through the locks, fluffing them so they looked even.
When she opened the door, she wasnât sure what would greet her on the other side.
âHey, Ken, do ya have the stain remover?â
A man approached looking down at his naked stomach. His skin was dyed a dark shade of blue and his hair green. He wore a kilt and nothing else, revealing that the coloring most likely covered all of his body.
âI opened a new soap and our wench of a sister left me a present.â The man glanced up and stumbled in surprise. âKen? Did Malina get to ya too?â
âIâm not Ken,â Andrea said.
âWhat?â The man appeared surprised. âYa meanâ¦â He grinned, trying to look behind her toward the bed. âHe here?â
Andrea shook her head.
âWas he here?â
âHi. Iâm Andrea.â She stopped his inquiry before it became any more awkward.
âOh, sorry, Iâm Erik. Kennethâs brother.â Erik grinned. Something caught his attention, and he glanced down the hall. âRory, come here.â
âIâve heard of blue balls, but thatâs taking it to another level. What did ya do to piss Lydia off?â Rory asked.
âKenneth has a woman,â Erik said.
âItâs not official. I still have a chance.â Rory appeared next to Erik, his teasing smile fading. âOr not.â
âMorning, Rory,â Andrea said.
âHey, Andrea. Tell me Iâm not too late.â Rory gave a dramatic sigh.
âSorry, itâs not going to happen,â Erik said for her, pushing Rory back the way he came. âWe told ya, youâre just not lovable.â
âWhat do ya know, Captain Blue Balls?â Rory waved his hand in Erikâs face as he came back to the door. âYa only found someone because Lydia clearly did something bad in a past life that she needs to atone for in this one by marrying ya.â
âJealousy is never pretty, cousin.â Erik slapped Roryâs shoulder, before calling out, âIain, come here. Meet Kennethâs woman.â
âYa are not supposed to refer to women like that,â Iainâs voice answered.
âIt does make ya sound like a caveman,â Rory agreed.
âAndrea, my apologies,â Erik said. âFellas, this is Andrea, sheâs Kennethâs lady.
