Sol Prime, outside Sol Heliopause, 200 AU from Earth.

“Well, there’s no denying it. That is an impressive ship,” Rane said to her.

Amanda stood with a small crowd of people in the main Ormond hanger bay, the only docking bay big enough to house the brand new Arkady Mark II.

Naseen Xalus stood before them with a smile on his face, his hands on his hips. “You like her?”

“She is awesome, and huge,” Amanda replied, staring up at the ship as it floated above the floor of the bay as if it were as light as a feather.

~You like the new me?~ Jinx asked through an open Link to them all.

Amanda laughed. “I love it, do you?”

~Hell yeah! Sabrina would be proud,~ Jinx asked.

“I’m sure she would,” Amanda answered with a smile as she admired the Aether ship. The original Arkady was seventy-three meters long, around the size of a jumbo jet, but this ship was easily six times as long, probably closer to seven times as long, making her around four hundred and fifty meters long. The main hull was sleek and reminded Amanda of a hawk. Its wings were huge, and the whole thing was probably wider than it was long. The surface was a reflective metal, like chrome, but it also seemed to break the light up as it reflected it, giving the surface a rainbow effect. It was fascinating to look at.

“So, don’t keep me waiting; tell me all about it,” she said to Xalus.

“Of course. Firstly though, I have to say, I am rather proud of this. But anyway, yes. Come, follow me,” he said, and began to walk around under the ship. “The Mark II is similar to the Arkady you knew, but it’s faster and more heavily armed and armoured. It’s fitted with an upgraded core compared to first Arkady, making the speeds available to it during Pulse, Displacement, and Flux transit faster, and the transition between them smoother. It’s got an upgraded Aegis effect, and the armour is enchanted to be the toughest we can currently create. It’s also fitted with the usual mundane tech, such as quantum shielding and the usual fusion and pion drives. It has the usual life support functions, but the ship is much bigger than the Mark I and can easily hold a standard crew of thirty souls, comfortably. Triple that at full capacity for short periods. Jinx is fully installed and can control the whole ship herself, and, of course, you can fly it manually as well, if you so wish.”

“I’m in love; it’s gorgeous,” Amanda complimented him.

“Also, I didn’t know what you wanted to do with the Mark I, so I installed a custom docking bay for it, up there,” he pointed.

Amanda looked up to see bay doors swing open to reveal the Arkady Mark I nestled snugly inside a purpose-built docking bay.

“There’s a compliment of four smaller shuttles in the ship as well, should you need them,” Xalus added.

Amanda couldn’t help the huge grin on her face as she admired the work of art before her.
