Lyric

It had been weeks since Lyric and Celine had talked to Blair and they still hadn’t heard from Azina or Valeria. Celine was becoming increasingly concerned. Ovalia had returned but had said that Apophis couldn’t come to see them yet, she was too busy organizing the search for Nelarth and dealing with the various complaints and problems of the dragons. Thankfully, the training with the Daxrah and Chester men was going well. They had stopped several smaller groups of the Sacred Blood from getting close to Fallstorm and had taken their horses and weapons. Sir Allan Chestmire had appointed one of his most trusted men to store the dragon hunting weapons. He didn’t want them to get into the wrong hands or to be used on the friendly dragons of Fallstorm. Lyric had recently watched as the man, Edgar Cron, explained how the weapons worked and how to render them useless. It was crucial information for their men to know.

Meanwhile, in the north, King Horne was spotted leaving North Port and seemed to be preparing his army to move on Middale. Lyric wasn’t sure if it was posturing, or if the king truly intended to attack them. With the southern lords fighting for independence it seemed crazy for King Horne to attack them, but it wouldn’t be the first time a Horne had done something stupid.

Lyric had woken early to accompany the dragons on a scouting run. Everything had seemed quiet and in good order. When he returned Tripp had offered to teach him a few new wrestling moves. He was still learning new things every day from his Daxrah. The men had been training since they were very young and had lots of knowledge and experience to share. Lyric worked with them as often as he could.

Tripp grunted and threw Lyric onto the ground. Lyric’s lungs emptied and for several seconds his mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, as he tried to bring in air. Tripp pinned him down ruthlessly. As his lungs finally cooperated, Lyric twisted and freed himself from the iron grip. He was still struggling for breath but he managed to push his shoulder into Tripp’s chest while he wrapped his legs. Tripp laughed and quickly broke the hold.

Lyric tapped Tripp’s hip and rolled onto his back. “That’s it I’m done in.” Lyric panted and tried to regulate his heart. “By the Gods that is hard work.”

Tripp sat with his knees bent out in front of him, arms draped over his legs. “You did well.”

Lyric shaded his eyes to look at Tripp. He couldn’t tell if he meant it or not. Lyric’s stomach growled and both men chuckled.

“Have you eaten yet today, Lyric?”

Lyric pushed himself to sitting. “No. I missed breakfast.”

Tripp stood up and offered Lyric a hand. “The new cook is good. I bet you can find something to tide you over until lunch. Just watch out for that damn cat.”

“You don’t have to remind me. Yesterday he got me,” Lyric pushed up his sleeve to reveal four long cuts on his forearm.
