My phone’s been going off constantly while I have been in Grover’s office, digging up dirt on Ben. Ben is slick and knows how to fight the system, but soon, all four walls will be closing in on him.

Suddenly, I get an incoming text from Lindsay.

Lindsay: Guess what? He’s been keeping tabs on her since she kicked his cheating ass out of the house. He knew that three months after the divorce was final, he would be out of money. He’s been borrowing money from our parents and Clarissa. Oh, and get this, Clarissa is leaving his sorry ass. He’s been having an affair with her mother.

That boy just dug himself into his own grave on this one, and I didn’t even have to do much poking around.

Me: Okay, get all the information I need and meet me at the office. Oh, and, Lindsay, thank you. I know I hurt you, and I should have been honest from the beginning and not lead you on.

Lindsay: I’m a big girl, Cole. Life will go on without you. If you hurt Tawney, there will be hell to pay.

I put my phone away and meet up with Grover to let him know I am done. “Hey, man, thanks again for the help. I couldn’t have gotten all this information without you.”

“Anytime, Cole. If you need me to scrounge up anything else, let me know.” We shake hands, and I head out the door with a big smile.

I head to my favorite diner to get some food. With all this commotion today, I skipped breakfast and lunch. My stomach growls loudly. I hope Mimi saved me some chicken and dumplings with collards. I called her before leaving Grover’s office. She said the place’s been rocking all day since the strawberry festival started.

I never knew there were so many desserts with strawberries, and to top it off, they make it a weekend event. But my stomach growls again. Okay, buddy, I’m about to feed you.
