Chapter One

Luma woke up to the feeling of something sticky on her cheek.

She brushed a sleepy hand over her face. “What is that?”

“What is what?” came a muffled voice.

A Timir-shaped blob stood up under the duvet and burrowed toward her.

“Good morning, Timir,” Luma said, as he wriggled onto her tummy.

“Luma? There is something on your face,” Timir said. “I get it.”

He leaned forward and used his spiky dragon teeth to pull it off.

“Ouch!” Luma yelped. “Oh, it’s tape!”

Luma glanced down at the pile of half-wrapped presents next to her bed and grinned.

Today was Nani’s birthday and Luma and Timir had been preparing their gifts all week!

“Luumma!” Timir mumbled—the tape had stuck itself to his mouth and he was trying very hard to shake it off.

Luma giggled, gently peeling it away. “Do you think our picture frame is dry?”
