Chapter 14

WREN COULDN’T INTERPRET the look on Luke’s face as he huffed out a frustrated sigh. He looked better than he should in a casual navy shirt that showed off his muscular frame and broad shoulders, but it was the sudden warning in his eyes that made her pause. “It’s not safe,” he repeated. “We went over this earlier. I know she’s your sister and you want to do everything you can to save her, but it’s best to let us handle this.”

“He’s right,” Gray said, scowling. “Going there yourself is a bad idea. Luke can’t keep you safe and worry about rescuing Lily.”

“I’ll be fine,” she said stiffly.

Luke was already standing up from the table, pulling out his wallet and tossing down some cash. The rest of the men were doing the same, and she didn’t miss the way Sam looked over at her friend. Ava purposefully ignored him, her gaze scanning the restaurant, her foot impatiently tapping on the floor.

Luke turned to Wren, still much taller than her despite the fact she had on heels tonight. His eyes heated for a moment as his gaze flicked over her, but it was gone so quickly, she almost wondered if she’d imagined it. “We don’t know if Lily’s still there. I’m guessing the photo is from last night. You know as well as I do that we were searching other locations then. He could be baiting us.”

“It looks exactly like the nightclub I went to the day I arrived in Mexico. The one you guys were at where we bumped into each other.”

“It does,” he said with a nod.

“Then let’s go,” she said, grabbing Luke’s arm before he could rush off without her. The heat from his skin burned into her fingertips, and she could feel his muscles tensing beneath her hand. His scent filled the air between them, and she tried to ignore the sudden electricity coursing through the air. “I came down here to find her.”

Luke looked down at Wren’s hand on his forearm and then back up at her. “This could be a trap. He might realize that someone is looking for him.”

“I don’t care. I didn’t come all this way to leave her in some nightclub in Cancun while I sit around relaxing in a luxury resort. Not that I could actually relax. She’s my little sister. I’m going with or without you.”

He clenched his jaw but nodded, seeming to realize she wasn’t backing down. Wren let go of his arm, immediately missing Luke’s strength and warmth. She couldn’t just stand here clinging to him though. “Ava, are you coming?” she asked.

“We’ll both come,” Sam said. “It’ll look less suspicious than two big guys showing up on our own, especially if this guy got tipped off that we’ve been asking around the resort about Lily. The four of us can go together.”

“No way,” Ava said, glaring at the other man. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”

Sam raised his eyebrows. “Not even if it helps us find Lily?”

Ava muttered something under her breath.
