Adam pointed the SeaRay west, and they headed about 35 miles away to the lovely harbor town of Vermilion.

There, nestled on the water’s edge, a charming lakeside restaurant with an upper and a lower patio came into view. Next to the lower patio, Isaac could see a couple of smaller boats already docked. Adam cut the motor and they slipped in behind one of those boats.

“Hey, Ike, can you tie her off?” he called out.

“Yep.”

Isaac got up and tied the boat to one of the posts on the dock next to the restaurant. Then he zipped the legs back onto his cargo pants and put them and the t-shirt back on and ran his hands through his air-dried hair in an effort to make himself look presentable after his ordeal.

They disembarked from the boat and snagged a table on the lower patio where they could watch all the boats go by.

The ladies excused themselves to go inside the restaurant to the bathroom. When they were alone, Adam turned to Isaac.

“She is terrific, Ike.”

Isaac smiled at him.

“I’m serious. Before all the excitement back there with the overboard kids, Bree took me aside and said that she loves her.”

“Oh, yeah?”

“She asked if we could keep her. She said Sidney’s smart and funny and she seems to really be into you.”

That got Isaac’s attention.

“What? Did Sidney say something to Bree?”

Adam grinned and shrugged a shoulder. “I don’t know. She must have. But Bree said she thinks she’s perfect for you.”

Isaac’s stomach fluttered. What the hell was that?

And why was he asking silly high school questions? More than that… Why couldn’t he stop?

“And what do you think?” he asked, looking Adam in the eyes. He wasn’t sure why, but his brother’s opinion of Sidney mattered a lot to him.

“I’ve just told you what I think. She’s terrific.”

He rolled his eyes. “Be more specific.”

“Well, I’ve watched you two together all day long now, and I’ve gotta say, I like it. I mean, it’s like you’re a teenager in love or something. You can barely keep your hands off her.”

“That’s not true.”

Isaac made a face at him even though he suspected his brother was right. He loved touching Sidney. He did it every chance he got.

“Uh, yeah, it is! But it’s cute. I mean, it makes sense. You’ve been dodging physical touch for so long. But now, with her, you don’t have to. Plus, you are literally like a whole different person around her. You’re not so closed off and guarded all the time. It’s nice to see, man.”

Isaac thought about his brother’s assessment of the situation and he frowned. His gaze focused on the menu in front of him, but he didn’t really see it. Something about what Adam said troubled him.

“You know… this isn’t like I’m suddenly turning over a new leaf or something, Adam. I mean, being closed off and guarded is something I have to do to stay sane and free of physical pain.”

“I know that.”

“Sidney is the only person I’ve ever met in my life that I don’t have to be that way around.
