Summer practically stumbled into her small apartment. Her bag was still right where she’d left it. She felt Lena’s arms behind her pulling her back, as she’d done to her in the bar.

“I am very drunk,” Summer said with a laugh.

“So am I. We should not have attempted to drown our sorrows in alcohol and then make up immediately after.” Lena moved Summer’s hair aside and placed a kiss on her neck.

“We really did not plan our make up properly.” Summer invited the kiss by tilting her head, allowing Lena to continue to press her lips over Summer’s sensitive skin. “We should get my stuff and go. The car is waiting.”

“And then we go home?” Lena kissed her again.

“Yes,” Summer whispered.

“Can I get the tour of this place first?” Lena requested as she removed her lips.

“No,” Summer replied and turned around in her arms. “That just delays us getting home. So, here’s your tour.”

She waved one arm in the air with a flourish and then took her big roller handle in the other hand. Lena laughed at her in a new laugh Summer hadn’t heard before. It was, apparently, Lena’s drunk laugh. Summer loved it.

“You’re a terrible tour guide,” Lena replied as her laughter died down.

“I’m never here anyway.” Summer pulled on her bag. “And when I finally find that house I’m looking for, this place will be gone for good. So, there’s no point in the tour. Come on. I want to go home.”

Lena smiled at her and followed her back to the car, where their driver lifted her bag into the trunk, and they drunkenly got back inside.

“I haven’t been this drunk in years,” Lena said as Summer reached for her cheek to pull her closer.

“Neither have I.” She went to kiss her, but Lena pulled back. “Something wrong?”

“No, you’re just… you’re fun, Summer. You’re really fun.”

“I’m fun?” Summer pulled back even more.

“No, stop.” Lena pulled her back, placing both of Summer’s hands in her lap. “I don’t mean you’re a fun time or I’m only having fun with you. I really like you. Part of what I like about you is how fun you are. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had actual fun? Since I’ve met you, I’ve had an entire planetarium to myself; I’ve made sundaes in my kitchen while making a mess; I’ve watched an 80s movie that I never thought I’d watch all the way through; I’ve eaten about a hundred grilled cheese sandwiches; laughed while we sampled wine together; I flew to Nashville to see one of my favorite artists and then had a full-on banquet in a hotel suite.” She took a deep breath. “I’ve had so much fun. I’ve laughed more than I have laughed maybe ever, and I like it.”

“I like it too. I like having fun with you,” Summer replied.

“But you know what I’ve also noticed?” Lena asked as the car moved them toward the house.

“What?”

“That I like the other stuff too.” She played with Summer’s hands in her lap.
