Black and Blue

I've been running, spiraling out of control

Hit the bottom

Hey kid

You got nowhere else to go

It was a certain kind of funny

The laugh or you'll choke kind of funny

That I was a victim of teenage drug addicts

Pregnant far too soon

Necessity turned kids to lovers

What did I know of love?

Years of scars weren't those love marks?

Black and blue

A sign of commitment

Turning with the tide

This is how a man treats, his woman

Rubber bands of dollars

Bills paid

Nails done

Hair laid

No complaints

Black and blue

When things go awry

It's always Mama's fault

I fell into the same cycle as Mama

Thought this world was cold

A stranger offered a home

Baby you gotta let him go

This is the way

He's a good man

Decent

Good job

No jail time

9-5 on Wall Street

I'll be fine

I'm just a little black and blue

No, no she said

Those are words used to keep you trapped

Don't feed into that

You're a survivor

You'll survive him

In due time

All will be right

You'll learn to see the light
