They moved through the crowd around the fountain until they had a clear pathway. Callie chewed her lip and sent a silent prayer up to Abby. If you’re here, sweetheart, please know I’ll always love you. No one will ever replace you. I’ll just expand my heart to hold the two of you.

Callie felt Dana’s eyes on her as she tossed in a coin indicating she was hoping to return to Rome. After admitting to Maggie last night that she didn’t want to live her life alone, she’d thought about Abby, about their love, and several times during the day, she’d read the letter she’d left. Abby had not only given her permission to find someone else, she’d encouraged her to fall in love again and be happy. Then Callie had acknowledged to Abby, and herself, that her feelings for Dana went beyond friendship.

She heard Dana’s soft gasp as she tossed a second coin which meant she wanted to fall in love, though not necessarily with an Italian as the legend predicted. She glanced at Dana as she tossed the third coin, wishing to marry the person she met. Dana elbowed her. “Welcome to the three coins in the fountain club. I joined last night.”

Callie blew out a breath. “It’s scary, but it feels right. I’m glad you’re a member too.” Taking Maggie’s advice, she was letting herself feel what she felt. She slipped her arm through Dana’s.

“I’m ready to go to bed.” Realizing what she’d said, she blushed. As attracted as she was to Dana, she wasn’t ready for sex with her. Or anyone for that matter. “I mean I’m ready to go back to the hotel.”

Dana pressed Callie’s arm closer. “I knew what you meant.”

The evening was clear and warm, the lighting dim, and except for the murmur of the few people they passed, the only sound was the echo of their footsteps. Callie felt as if they were encased in their own private bubble. Did Dana feel the connection? It was more than just the warmth she felt where their bodies touched. It felt…romantic.

She side-eyed Dana. She looked far away. Was she feeling romantic too? Lost in their own thoughts neither spoke until they were standing in the hallway outside their rooms.

Dana cleared her throat. “About tomorrow. I’m interested in the tour of the Colosseum and the Forum. What about you?”

“Definitely. I had enough me time today and it sounds intriguing. Meet for breakfast as usual?”
