“There is always the chance that a human has somehow gained the ability to reach into the magick of the land.” Caise shrugged. “Such has happened before, Dragon. A dark Sorcerer, perhaps of a union between Sorcerer and human. Such beings still possess great power.”

“But never one of such strength,” Garron pointed out. “But we will argue that point at a later time. You go to the Princess Marina now, thinking to complete the Joining rising from the alignments of magick. Am I correct?”

The dragon seemed intent on broaching the subject.

“This is no business of yours, Garron,” Kai’el warned him, the magick rising within him darkening his voice, making it sound harsher than ever.

“It is much my business, Wizard,” he snapped, his black eyes glowing with yellow sparks of fury as he glared back at him. “I have raised these Sorceresses. I have protected them when no other male stood to defend them. I have guarded this castle and its women far longer than you could ever know. Do not tell me what is business of mine and what is not. Now I say to you, do you go to her to complete the Joining, without the truth before you, hers as well as your own, you will damage the very bond you wish to create.”

“What bond do you speak of?” Caise snarled, the conflicts raging inside him suddenly bursting free.

“The one we will create with a Keeper? A Sorceress who cannot leave her lands, cannot survive within ours? Aye, Dragon, ‘tis a fine bond the Sentinels blessed us with. Our Consort. A Consort who will cleave not to us, but the land she accepted as her own.”
