Relic

“You are not only a complete stubborn fool, but you're also delusional if you think I still owe you any favors,” Rhein says to me with absolute sincerity and a twinkle in his eyes.

The basement of the bar was pitch black, save for the halo of neon blue light that blazes above us. The bar is seedy, loud and dirty. My favorite kind of rendezvous point to collect on a debt.

“You owe me much more than what I’m here for, Rhein,” I respond with an almost too calm voice. “Debts left unpaid are chains that tie us to the past. We warlocks need to stick to our principles. Do the right thing.”

Rhein rolls his eyes and sighs, but he can't deny the truth of my words. He’s asked me for help on numerous occasions and I’ve obliged him each time.

But I kept a tally and record of such things. I have to.

“Fine,” he concedes with a shrug. “What is it that you need me to do now? Slay an army you've accidentally pissed off?”

“Really, it's going to be that easy? I don't need to bring up instances where I've saved your ass, or produce receipts?”

“I'd rather not give you the chance for such long winded speeches, Relic.” Rhein says with a smile. A few of his friends chuckle, others smile.

I look around at the rest of the group, seeing if any of them were in agreement with my plan before I explain it further. After receiving nods, I turn back to Rhein and begin outlining my plan.

“We need to stop the potential end of the world as we know it. The Vampire Council has teamed up with one Dr. Blakely and has started to devise a serum that turns people into beasts, making a controllable army.” I take a sip of my drink to wet my throat before continuing. “We can use the power they manifest against them to fight off their initial threat, but we'll need your help as well. Oh, and Nyx has resurrected himself back from the dead in a capacity that I'm not quite sure how to deal with.”

His men explode into laughter, Rhein's eyes crack as he too belts out a guffaw in my face.

“And what else? No, let me fucking guess. There’s a large snake in the sky that wants to swallow the world like an egg too, am I right, Relic?” Rhein asks as he slaps my shoulders in his continuing laugh.

“No,” I say looking at his men seriously, my eyes drilling into him at the end. “No, simply what I told you. I also have three arcanists back at a compound who are waiting for my help.”

Rhein considers my proposal before nodding in agreement once more, committing himself fully toward our cause “Ok, let's do this then,” he says with a smirk on his face revealing a bit of excitement “I'll be right behind you.”

“Again, so easily?”

“I've always wanted to see an arcanist in person. You know they amplify power.”

“If they choose to do so.
