CHAPTER EIGHT

“Are you sure it’s all right?” Doug asked.

Jessi laughed, tossing her long red hair. “That’s the tenth time you’ve asked me that question. Did you know that? At least ten times.” She sighed with mock exasperation, her big firm tits straining at the material of her pink sweater. “Yes, darlin’, it’s perfectly all right. What do you think I am, crazy? Surely I couldn’t be getting you in dutch without doing the same for myself.”

It made sense. “No, I guess not.” Doug tapped his fingernail against the side of his glass.

“You just take it easy and relax, honey.” She smiled at him and blew him a kiss. “Want me to freshen your drink?”

“No… thanks.” Unconsciously, Doug began to pull at his sideburns, twisting and twirling the short dark hairs around his fingers. “You see, it’s just that…”

The doorbell rang.

Doug’s mouth dropped open and his face paled. “Oh shit.”

“Darlin’…” Jessi cast a stern green eye at him, positively perplexed by his inability to trust her word. A last gulp of her gin and tonic, and she put the glass on the floor next to the sofa. “Don’t you think I know my own husband?” she asked.

Doug drained his Scotch. The ice cube rattled coldly against his teeth. “I sure hope you do,” he muttered into the glass, feeling very fatalistic suddenly. “Oh, well…”

“You going to walk me to the door?” she asked.

“No, that’s all right. I’ll wait here. I’ll let you tell him… about this, afternoon.”

Jessi shook her head and smiled. “Darlin’, one of these days you’re going to learn to trust me.”

The doorbell buzzed again.

“I hope so.” He tried to smile, but it came out a grin.

Watching her firm, full ass disappearing through the living room arch, headed toward the door, Doug felt as if he were shrinking into his chair. A wave of pure anxiety swept him, and he mentally kicked himself, wondering if he were a fool. What was he doing there?

With his ears attentive to every sound, he could hear Jessi open the front door, greeting her husband Walt. He couldn’t make out their words, but he could hear them talking. They seemed to talk for a very long time. Doug began to sweat under his armpits. The roof of his mouth got very dry, and there was a metallic taste on his tongue. Incredibly, he got a thick, pounding hard-on, throbbing through his pants, even after the exhausting morning and afternoon he’d spent with Jessi. He squeezed it unconsciously, then realized what he was doing, and went back to wishing the damned thing would go away.

By the time he realized they had stopped talking, it was too late to panic. In a kind of numb detachment, he glanced up at the living room arch, just in time to see Jessi and her husband walking toward him.

Walt Holbrook was tall and slender, with a delicate, almost sensitive face. Thin-lipped, with large, round brown eyes, with long brown lashes, his narrow, high-cheeked face was topped with sandy-colored brown hair, which he wore cut short.
