Chapter 6

---

“Um… Chief Administrator… S-Skye?”

“Hm?”

“Eeep!”

The adventurer sitting across from me was shaking like a leaf. Kroyov, who apparently had some errand to attend to, had lent us his office for privacy. Though I say that, Lili was waiting near the door behind the couch where my “guest” sat, silently encouraging me with a childlike thumbs-up that matched her youthful appearance. I could practically hear her thinking “C’mon, Ren, you’ve got this. Kind! Kind!”

As if to keep the adventurer calm, my fiancée had apparently decided to revert back to her smaller form, which made me feel awkward acknowledging her as my fiancée.

Guess I really do have a rep. Well, shit.

Jeanne Austin. The Maiden of Calamity. Dragonslayer. She was a surprisingly well-endowed woman with long, curly hair brown hair befitting a noble. Even her reddish-brown cuirass, which was adorned with gold trim, seemed appropriate for someone at the higher echelons of Brienne’s aristocracy. It was meticulously designed and contoured to fit her body perfectly. Despite that, adjustable, high-quality leather straps secured each individual segment. Clearly, whoever had crafted her armor knew what they were doing, since such a form-fitting armor would normally have to be retrofitted by a smith with the slightest change of build. Whoever had designed Jeanne’s had made it possible for her to adjust each plate, herself.

Her unique weapon, a twinblade, matched the woman’s armor with red and gold decorations, and sat in one of the Guildmaster’s weapon racks near Lili. Both her weapon and equipment were of high quality, something I could see even before appraising them. The weapon itself could even be classified as Legendary-class, given its seemingly endless enchantments that served to bolster the adventurer’s magic.

If only the woman, herself, was of such quality. Her brown, naïve eyes were already glazing over as if filled with tears. She sat straight up, her hands clenched on top of her knees, and she was clearly avoiding eye contact. Her reaction to me went far beyond my reputation. Goddess knows, it definitely went beyond shyness. Was it anxiety? Fear? No, anyone could tell her reaction stemmed from one thing and one thing only.

This woman’s got absolutely zero self-confidence! What the Hell?!

I’d never seen this level of nervousness. Ever. Even the Meera didn’t seem this pathetic when I’d met her, and that supposed-Goddess was a blubbering mess!

Aren’t you supposed to be my senior?! Nah, screw that, where’s your pride as an adult?! An elementary schooler facing a grizzly’s got more stones than you?! What the f—?!

“U-um. Mi-mister Sk-Skye? Y-you w-wanted to see… t-to see…me?”

Thank the Goddess for Perception, because I doubt even a freaking dog could’ve heard Jeanne’s last word at the end of her sentence.

What the heck was that?! Was that supposed to be a statement or a question?! Holy crap, this child’s got me so outta whack, now I’m getting nervous! What? Did the Gods replace your confidence with your rack or something?! Now I know why Rebecca was worried. Screw the other adventurers, what how the hell am I supposed to talk to this chick?!

“Ahem.
