Camaraderie During TITUS Meetings

The TITUS meetings were an essential and unique element of TITUS’s implementation and success. Importantly, the meetings were purposeful, organized, and infused with collegial camaraderie. One of the visiting scholars described the meetings thus:

The most prominent aspect of the meeting to me was the warm feeling of acceptance of everyone and of the gifts they brought to the group. This aspect was priceless, as students, professors, school workers, and community members were equally accepted and appreciated. I appreciated that in a room full of brilliant scholars, no one was made to feel any less brilliant.

The next aspect that I appreciated was the order that was evident in every meeting. Meetings were semi-structured and very productive. I described the meetings as semi-structured because although there was always an agenda and goals, meetings were not so structured that they did not leave time for good humor and laughter. As a group, TITUS students, volunteers, and faculty members appeared to be very happy to be part of the endeavor and to enjoy their various roles.
