Ralph picked them up at the airport when they arrived back in Martinique.

“Hi, CV, Lisa. How was your trip?”

“Hi Ralph, it was interesting, enlightening, and exhausting. I’m glad to be back home,” CV said.

“It’s a beautiful place and I had a very good time,” Lisa said.

“I’m glad you’re both back, none the worst for wear.”

Back at the house Lisa unpacked their bags as CV went through the mail. Ralph prepared a late lunch for them and they ate on the patio.

“It is nice to be home. I enjoyed Paulo and Maria but I can do without Carnival. It’s too crazy,” CV said.

“It was, wasn’t it. If we visit again maybe April or May would be better, or January. Anytime other than Carnival. I would like to see them again though.”

“I would too. Maybe after our trip to Europe.”

“Speaking of our trip, we should make a plan. At least some timetable. What do you think?” Lisa said.

“I think just following the weather is a good start. I talked to my pilot, you know George, and he recommended starting in Lisbon and moving east to Spain, Italy and Greece before the more northern cities. Makes sense to me.”

“Sounds good. Mom told me I’m supposed to have relatives in Sicily. It might be fun to look them up. I’ll call her and see if she knows more.”

“Sicily, Sicily, why is that familiar? Just a minute, last time I talked to Milton, the new chief officer of the foundation, he mentioned something about Sicily. I’ll get the note, be right back.”

“Here it is, yes, a Doctor Giovanni Rizzo. He’s researching grape acids for medicinal uses. He lives in the mountains not far from Palermo.”

“Interesting, someone you’d like to talk to?”

“Yes, I would. Where are your relatives?”

“I don’t know. I’ll call mom. She’ll want to know about our trip so you better find something to do for an hour.”

“I’ll go see what the guys are working on. Take your time.”

Two hours later Lisa joined CV who was back on the patio.

“Sorry I took so long. Mom had to look at some old letters. I have a grandfather and an aunt. Maybe some cousins too. Anyway, my grandfather is Antonio Randazzo and he lives in Bagheria. It’s near Palermo.”

“I thought your name was Randal?”

“It was. My father had his name changed when he went into the Army. He didn’t want to sound too Italian. Originally it was Randazzo.”

“I never thought you looked Irish, that explains why.”

“He must be in his eighties now, if he’s still alive,” Lisa said.

“He probably is. People tend to have long lives in that part of the world. Should we go to Palermo first?”

“I’d like to, if you don’t mind. I’m curious now.”

“We can do that. I can look up Dr. Rizzo and you can find your relatives. If we both fail, we can go on to Athens. We’ll spend a few days in Palermo in any case.”

“I’ll need to buy a few things. I imagine Sicily is a lot more conservative than I’m used to.
