Then use the following command to crack the hash.

hashcat -m 0 md5hash.txt rockyou.txt

-m 0: MD5 hash mode. You can see all the codes on this page.

md5hash.txt : is the txt file containing the hash.

rockyou.txt: is the wordlist file.

The hash was successfully cracked and is “letmein456”.

Looks simple, doesn’t it. Now let’s crack the SHA256 hash. The hash mode value for SHA256 is 1400. Here is the command:

hashcat -m 1400 sha256hash.txt rockyou.txt

You can see that the status is “Cracked” and the “letmein456” password again. You can also crack multiple hashes by putting them in a text file.
