Chapter 11

(Olivia)

Boots’ room was the first one to the right, behind the stairs. It had a small bathroom, which was good because I caught a glimpse of the shared bathroom down the hall, and it was scary-looking.

The barn was a noisy place. Lots of people and activity despite it being nighttime. The creaks and thumps of humanity moving around made me jittery. The jukebox downstairs wasn’t deafening because of the solid rock wall that divided the barn into two halves but its songs were still distinguishable. The door from the second-floor balcony to the bedrooms was solid oak and heavy. Boot’s door wasn’t as solid, being one of the cheap kinds you get from any home improvement store. The outer side had a dent broken in on the bottom half. As if someone kicked the door too hard. There were two locks on the inside and a metal plate screwed into the wall that anchored the hardware in place. Dad installed one of those on my door, saying, “No one will be able to kick this in now.” I turned the deadbolt and then hugged my blanket.

The familiarity helped. Exhaustion from all of the sudden changes helped, too.

I woke when Boots locked the door behind him. He dropped his clothes to the floor, something my mother never let me do. Then he crawled into bed and tossed an arm over me.

This was new. His bare skin was right there. Did I dare touch? Should I not?

“Mmm…you’re like a body pillow.” He arranged himself, and me. Now my leg was between his. He had boxers on, which helped it not be too weird, But I still felt clueless as to how to proceed.

“Boots?”

“Mmm?” He put one hand on my face, finding my ear and cupping it.

I couldn’t stand it anymore. The weight of the blanket, the weight of him, the unfamiliarity of this place, the noise. It all came crashing inward.

“You’re breathing on me.” That was all I could come up with?

“Roll over then.” His words were muffled by the pillow.

“But you’re comfortable.”

“Not if you’re not.” He lifted his arm and started shoving at my hips. “Go on, roll.”

It took a bit to tug the blanket out from between us, and then to find a spot that worked.

He took control and spread the blanket over both of us.

“Hmm, I like this thing. Feels like a hug.”

My butt was right up against his dick. His arm between my boobs. His leg between mine. Right on my crotch.

Huh.

Once the oddity of it wore off, it didn’t feel bad at all. I wiggled a bit to find the sweet spot where our bodies fit better. I was the little spoon. It felt different but somehow right. Like his weight at my back was a bulwark of protection. I stared at the wall for a few minutes. He sighed against my neck.

“You still awake?” I asked.

“Mnnph.”

“Sorry.”

He caressed my breast. Then shocked the hell out of me by slipping his hand under my t-shirt to touch the bare skin.
