STEP NINE:

Start by creating a merged layer, which is basically a new layer at the top of your layer stack that looks like a flattened version of your image, by pressing Command-Option-Shift-E (PC: Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E). Then, get the Clone Stamp tool (S), Option-click (PC: Alt-click) in a clean area right beside the messy leftovers, and clone right over them. Here’s a great tip for accurately cloning along a visual seam where the lighter floor meets the darker background: The trick is to Option-click directly on the seam—with the little line in your sampling cursor being right on that seam (I sampled right on the seam between her feet, toward the foot on the right). Then, move over to the junk you need to remove, and you’ll see a preview right inside your brush cursor that shows the seam where you sampled. Line that up where the seam should be, clone horizontally in a straight line, and, voilá, the seam continues right on the money.
