Harvard Ave. With over 112 beers on tap, this “University of Beer” could offer you a new brew every night of senior spring and still have almost 400 bottled varieties left over. Believe it or not, however, pints, yards, and table taps are not the only reasons that serious scholars of beer matriculate here: in contrast to many other bars, the food here is actually good, and the portions are enormous. There is a distinctly Mexican edge to the menu, which boasts standards like Nacho Mamas ($5-11), Burrito Bonanzas ($8.50-10), quesadillas ($11.50-15.75), and Smokin’ Fajitas ($14-18). Old-fashioned American favorites like burgers ($6-6.30), big-cut steaks (16.50-20), and more healthful Salada Salads ($4.75-12.50) round out the plates that will help fortify your stomach against the alcoholic onslaught. Eagle’s Deli, 1918 Beacon St., Brighton (617-731-7701). This no-frills restaurant might not look like much, but the carnivore’s menu and generous portions pack a big punch. Shiny wood-themed decor is a nice twist to your average fast-food restaurant, and the friendly staff is certainly proud to be working there: after all, the place is famous for its epic “challenge” menu, the star of which is a 6-lb. burger topped with 20 pieces of bacon, 20 slices of cheese, 5 lb. of fries and a pickle ($55). Anyone who can eat the burger in 1hr. gets a $100 gift certificate, their money back, and a burger named after him or her. Beware—only 1 person has ever succeeded; most people just get their picture added to the wall of shame. For the (slightly) less ambitious eaters, the specialty burgers and sandwiches ($8.50) are still a formidable challenge. While the place is not particularly vegetarian-friendly, there is a nice selection of salads ($6.50-7.25), wraps ($6), and omelets ($5-7.50), all of which can be made meat-free. The Draft Bar and Grille, 34 Harvard Ave., Allston (617-783-9400). 57, 64, or 66 bus. Dimly lit booths, a comfortable bar, and a spacious interior make this a great spot to grab a meal, play a round of pool, and follow it all up with a cold drink. Their menu offers hearty appetizers like Southwestern-style chicken egg rolls ($8), veggie and meat-stuffed wraps and sandwiches ($6-9), and Italian-inspired pasta dishes like sweet sausage penne ($10). The incredibly affordable lunch special (M-F 11:30am-6pm) serves up all of The Draft’s burgers and melts along with fries for only $5. Open daily 11am-2am. AmEx/D/MC/V.

Harvard Ave. The soft blue lighting, Tuscan paintings, and small tables of this reliable Italian eatery are a welcome change from the louder college scene at nearby restaurants. With just over 15 tables and an attentive waiting staff, Carlo’s is the perfect spot to enjoy well-priced and hearty Italian cuisine with a date or small group of friends.
