5.2.3. Circle of Fourth

The circle of fourth is like the circle of fifth except that in the circle of fourth we build the next scale base on the fourth note of the current scale. The circle of fourth distinguishes scales based on the number of flats (♭) that the scale has.

Starting from C the fourth note is F therefore the F major is our next scale. F major has one flat, and the flat is B♭. B♭ is the fourth note of F so the next scale is B♭. B♭ has two flats. The C♭ is a redundant scale since it is equivalent to the B scale, it is used here jut for illustration.
