After eating and talking with their friends and family for a couple of hours, seeing that Micah is exhausted, Michelle walks their guests out and says goodbye.

Grace and Ian linger in the backyard with Jaden, picking up and folding chairs and tables.

“Guys,” Micah calls. “You don’t have to do that. Why don’t you head back home? It’s been a long day.”

Jaden walks over to Micah. “You look tired. You should let Michelle get you to bed.”

“That’s just where we were headed, and Micah’s right,” Michelle turns to face her sister. “You guys go home. You’ve done enough. I can clean up tomorrow. Right now, I just want to get my husband to bed.”

Grace comes in for a hug, and Michelle holds her tight. Micah’s illness has formed an additional, unspoken bond between them. “The ceremony was breathtaking, as were you.”

Michelle smiles.

“I’m just going to get these bags to the trash bin, wash my hands, and then we can head out.” Ian says, carrying three stuffed, black trash bags.

“Thanks, man,” Micah calls.

“I’ll be right back,” Ian says, walking to the side of the house.

Although the heaviness of the day threatens to bring Michelle to tears, she holds them back. “Thank you so much for everything you did.” Gratitude for her sister and family washes through her.

“You don’t need to thank me, love. This is what sisters are for. It turned out so beautiful.”

“Maybe not quite the event your wedding was, but it was us.”

“It was perfect. I’m so glad Micah’s friends showed up.”

“Me, too. I think it did him a lot of good to see them. I’m still angry, but seeing them with him, I kinda get it. They just can’t take it.”

“Okay, babe, are you ready?” Ian asks, coming up behind them.

Grace pulls away and runs her hand over Michelle’s hair. “I love you, Missy. You’re a beautiful bride. I’m so proud of you.”

“Love you, too. Come here,” Michelle directs her attention to Ian, opening her arms and taking him in. “Thank you. I don’t know what we would do without you.”

“I love you both. If you need us tonight, please call,” he responds.

“Tonight, he’s all mine.” Michelle grins.

Tearing apart, Ian hugs Micah. “Love you, man. Congratulations.”

“I’ll walk you all out, and then, I’ll be back for you.” Michelle points to Micah, earning a grin from him.
