When Laura got the message from Chris, at around six-thirty, her heart picked up and started beating so fast she could hardly think.

“What?” Jenna asked, reading her expression over the screen of the phone. Laura had stopped dead in her tracks as they walked out of the office.

“Uh... it’s Chris, he’s grabbing a beer with Rob tonight,” she said. “Oh, I better-”

“Wait,” Jenna said, leaning in to read Chris’s messages. She looked up at Laura. “Dude, Rob’s supposed to be coming to watch me tonight. He’s going to Red Room,” she said.

Laura looked at her helplessly.

“I just confirmed it with him like two seconds ago,” Jenna said, her eyes moving as she thought. Then she broke out in a wide smile. “Oh, hey... great minds think alike, this is good news for you.”

Laura looked at her, perplexed. Jenna hit her on the arm again. “It means Chris has this on his mind, too. Go, tell him to go, and then just like, show up there.”

Laura slowly moved her head. “Oh, I couldn’t...”

Jenna shrugged. “He’d obviously like it. But whatever. Tell him you’re going with me, see what he says.”

And so Laura found herself headed out the door with Jenna, to the mall, to get a hot outfit for Jenna’s date, which she would be watching... and so would her husband.

She wasn’t sure how it had happened, but there it was.
