âYou feeling warmer now?â Islaâs sitting on the motorcycle, warming up from the purring engine.
âYes, better now. Thanks, Klort⦠Iâm sorry. You mustâve been actually worried back there.â The usual Isla is backâthe Lady Isla.
âIt was mayday distress my brain sent out. So yeah, I was spiralling.â With my hands in the pocket of my coat, I sit down and cuddle Isla from behind, wrapping her into my coat. âBut I have to admit, that was a genius plan.â
âIt was,â she claims the compliment, âBut it was⦠very immature.â
âWell, that wouldnât be the first time.â I shrug.
âRight. Because Iâmâah-choo!â A tiny sneeze cuts her off. Islaâs nose scrunches a little, rubbing her finger to it while I start a whole debate in my head, whether or not that was the most preciously cute thing Islaâs done.
After that interruption, we stare at the sky, the ocean wind moves the clouds along the currents. The moon glows brighter now and the golden sand looks nearly enchanted. It feels like the moment where the two characters start talking aboutâ
âSo, is this the part where we have a heart-to-heart moment?â She reads my mind.
âUhhh,â Iâm baffled for a second, âI mean, according to every montage, yes.â I lay my head on her shoulder.
â⦠Do I just start asking questions?â
âMmh, I donât know, but just go with what you feel like saying.â
âOkay⦠I have been wondering the whole day about this,â she takes a breath, âwhere is your mother, Klort?â
âWow. So we are starting off strong!â I joke.
âOh, no! You donât have toââ she panics.
âIâm just kidding, your Lady.â I peck the nape of her neck, she tastes like the sea. âMy mom doesnât live with us. It just so happens her job requires her to be across the ocean.â
âI see. And the biology thing?â
âI used to get top grades for bio, it was a curse for me though. It made my family believe that I wanted to be a med student, so I ended up hating it.â
âBecause you love animation.â Her voice sounds so soothing with the low tides of the ocean. â⦠I want to pursue social justice. Or humanitarian studies. My mother sees it as foolish because thereâs really no point for the nobles to make a fuss when we already have everything.â
âThen what makes you want to do it?â
âBecause I know I have power and influence over things. Iâm a Lady, Klort. There is so much I can do to help others, and I want to be better than my parents.â Her voice is strong and proud, like a natural-born leader.
âIâm not surprised by this confession,â I shrug, âIt fits you like a glove.â I think she should just do what she wants.
âYou really think so?â Her voice is kind and sweet.
âYes, I do.â I smile. âLady Isla Blarnett of Andersville, assisting thousands of food drive donations over the holiday season. Yeah, definitely something Iâd see as the headline.â
âYou are so weird.â She taps my nose, I huff out a short breath at that.
