“I just don’t need the drama, you know?” I tell Holly on the phone, after I fled from the Italian restaurant.

I’m in the bathtub with a bottle of sangria and sappy songs from the eighties playing on the radio. I lit every candle in my bathroom and turned out the lights. It’s time for a little ME time.

“But, he’s a really nice guy,” Holly protests.

“Yes. He’s a really nice guy who’s into skinny blondes. This strapping redhead does not need a man to survive. I’ll be quite fine without him, thank you very much,” I insist, swiping at the tears flooding my eyes.

“Mmhmm..” Holly’s tone is skeptical.

“It’s true,” I exclaim. “I was fine before I met Chug and I’ll be fine tomorrow. Now, I’m just thinking of him as a beefcake who works at the gym. He’s pretty to look at, but too dangerous to touch. He’s like one of those beautifully colored rain forest frogs who look amazing but touching them causes you to die within minutes,” I grouse, patting at the mounds of bubbles in the tub.

“That’s not a very flattering comparison, Jos,” Holly points out. “Chug is hardly a frog.”

“Well, he’s certainly not going to be my Prince Charming, so it doesn’t matter anyway. Listen, I’m going to finish my drink and go to bed. I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” I promise, wanting to get off of the phone before the tears start.

After a few more sighs and questions, Holly finally hangs up, and I sip at my sangria with tears slipping down my cheeks.

“Tomorrow is a new day in the new year,” I tell myself, and I vow that no one, particularly not Cameron or Chug, will ever know how humiliated I felt today.

I am big, I am beautiful, and I’m going to take the world by storm, tomorrow.
