50. Hakon returns to Norway
HAKON now left Denmark and went back north to his estates in Norway. His kinsman, Earl Orm, was dead by then. Hakon’s friends and kinsmen were all very pleased to see him, and a number of nobly born men undertook to bring about a reconciliation between him and King Harald. Eventually they came to terms: King Harald gave Hakon the earldom and authority which Earl Orm had had, and Hakon married Princess Ragnhild. In return, Hakon swore oaths of loyalty and service to King Harald, as was his duty.
