CHAPTER FOURTEEN

It was late when Corey returned to the room last night, and when he did, Devin pretended he was asleep. He’d had lain in bed for hours, unable to fall asleep, trying to make sense out of everything that he’d witnessed earlier. Why had Corey gone to that gay bar? Was this where he’d disappeared to in the past when he wouldn’t tell Devin where he was going? The only explanation was that Corey was gay, right? That would explain his need to sneak around and hide his whereabouts. Despite seeing Corey enter a gay bar with his own eyes, Devin still had difficulty believing it was true. The star hockey player at the academy was gay? Unlikely. After all, Corey hung around with the other homophobes on the hockey team and never attempted to defend Devin when those assholes had confronted him. Devin had a difficult time believing that Corey could be gay. Besides the sneaking around, he tried to think of any hints or clues that Corey might have dropped, but nothing came to mind. Corey seemed like a typical high school jock.

And yet….he goes to a gay bar? Now that Devin thought about it, there could be any number of reasons why Corey had been there. Maybe he has a friend who works there. Or perhaps he was meeting a gay friend there. If that was the case, he could understand why Corey wanted to keep it a secret, as it would undoubtedly damage his reputation if word got out that Corey was at such a place, regardless of the reason. Devin knew he should simply let it go, but he had to find what Corey was doing there. But most importantly, he had to find out whether Corey might be gay.

Devin stayed in bed until after Corey left for Saturday morning hockey practice. Then, he showered and thought about how he would spend the day. After he got dressed, he texted Hans and Ethan.

Devin: What are you guys up to today?

Hans: We’re just hanging out. Wanna come by and play video games?

Ethan: Or we don’t have to play games. We can go out for lunch or something.

Devin: Games are fine. Be over in ten.

When Devin arrived at their dorm room twenty minutes later, Ethan answered the door and let him in.

“Isn’t Hans around?” Devin said, glancing around the empty room.

“He should be back in a few,” Ethan said. “He’s showering. Although considering how long it takes him to primp, it could be a while. And I’m not just saying that because he’s gay. It literally takes him an hour to get ready whenever he goes anywhere.”

“That explains why his hair always looks so good,” Devin said.

“I know, right? So what’s going on with you? How’s life with the jock?”

Devin stiffened. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, how are you getting on with Corey, the hockey superstar, and all his asshole friends?”

“Better, actually. He’s not so bad of a guy once he lets his guard down, and thankfully, none of his teammates have shown up in the room recently.
