Chapter 5

“I’m well aware that you had ninety days in which to pay off the money that you were lent, Mr. Shep. However, it’s been twice that now, and we’ve received no payment from you at all.” Keegan winked at Kerri when she came into the office with him. “I’m to inform you that Garrett construction will be taking back their work from you should we not have the payment in full today.”

He was helping out Brook today with some of the late payments from work that she and her men had done this past summer. She didn’t have many that didn’t pay her, but the few that didn’t, she would come down on them hard.

“I just don’t understand why she’s wanting me to pay her anyway. She did a piss poor job of it, and now I’m having to redo some of the areas again.” Keegan asked him if he remembered that his building had been on the cover of not one but four magazines for best design. “Yes, well, I didn’t know that she was aware of that. I did try and keep her name out of the pictures, but I guess they knew that she’d done it. It shouldn’t matter, you know. She has more money than she has sense. What sort of woman owns a construction company and lets people pay her in ninety days? This is all her fault. I’m not going to pay her on principle. You can threaten me with whatever you want. We both know that she isn’t going to do anything about it. Now, you don’t call here again. Write it off or something for her. I’m finished with talking to you.”

He then hung up. Keegan wondered what he should do now and figured that with some help with his newfound powers, he could literally take care that the man lost his beautiful building. He looked over at Kerri and smiled.

“I don’t think I like that look.” Keegan assured her that he wasn’t liking what he had in mind to do. “Oh, I’m going to like this, aren’t I? What do you have planned?”

After explaining to her what the man had said and that he wasn’t going to pay for the work, Kerri suggested that they call Brook to get her opinion on it. She told them that she’d met them at the building at five. No point in doing anything where Mr. Shep could see them and try to stop them. So they were going to meet Brook at the building at six when everyone was gone for the day. Keegan was as excited as he’d been about using magic on a dirtbag.

When they arrived, he was glad that Rogue was there. She was going to take pictures of what was going to happen. Also, she’d brought along an agent with her so that he could be there in the event that shit hit the fan. Oh, Keegan thought, that was what he was hoping for.

“The building can stay. However, all the improvements that were made to the outside need to be removed.
