In the pool area, he walked around and found the concrete that rose at the doorways to keep the water out. Usually he found them with his toe. Such a connection was not comfortable to say the least. Yet all the distractions from the surroundings kept him from identifying a doorway. In the pool area, with all of the loud sounds such as spraying showers, echoes off of the walls and concrete floors, and hollers from the guys made it difficult for him to keep his directions. He had to resort to counting steps and hope for daylight coming in the windows to keep him oriented. But such orientation without a cane meant that he could not walk comfortably or with confidence while in a state of undress in the locker room as he was afraid he might run into some of the other guys.
