Being back at the office with all four of them was both better and worse. The tingling in my body that I was almost used to at that point, was more intense of course, but we were in the FBI building and all four of them were there. It was far less intimate than one on one had been for me, which meant I didn’t feel quite so suffocated and vulnerable.

I knew that suffocated feeling was my vulnerability because of my trust issues, and there was little to no risk of me doing anything forward or stupid when at work. Even if my body was more than ready, heated and tingly, wanting to be touched and held, my mind clearly wasn’t ready at all. My chest felt heated, my breasts beyond sensitive, and the butterflies were in full flight. I felt like a hot mess and wanted things I wasn’t even sure about, had never experienced, but the office was safe. Far safer than being alone with Steve in his house.

Perversely, I also missed it.

There was also the unrelated matter of the spells, I’d been holding those protection spells since we’d left the office the previous night, and it was a relief to let them go, even if it turned out to be only for a short time.

Nothing had changed with Chad and Andrew, only Jason openly looked at me with desire, and Steve sent me mixed signals, but the other two seemed as closed off as the first day. I didn’t really blame them, none of us had a choice in the bond, but we did have a choice in how we reacted to it. Absurdly, there was a small part of me that felt rejected, even as I understood, no doubt my trust issues.

Steve was also back to his office face as the boss, in control and strong, while an inexorable and sure confidence radiated from him, not to mention the just and protective inclinations my power could read in him.

Honestly, that confidence made me tingle below and I wasn’t even sure if it had anything to do with the lust bond, getting to know him last night and this morning had me softening toward him in a way that alarmed me. I knew he was worried about the age thing, but I wasn’t sure how to tell him that was the least of my concerns in a way he’d believe.

Men were confusing, just one of them, how was I supposed to deal with all four? Did I even want to? The fact that I wasn’t sure was rather alarming in itself, shouldn’t the answer have been a resounding hell no, one’s enough?

Steve asked, “Jason?”

Jason replied, “There’s been more than a few reported sightings on the hotline of Ethan Sparks all over Dallas, but unverified. If any of them were right, he was gone before a patrol car could verify. I…”

Jason trailed off and reached for his phone, then smirked when he read the message.

“Got him, good timing.
