Chapter Thirteen

The bright sun bathed my face, it danced lightly against my skin at the same time that the cool breeze stirred my dark hair around my small face. I sat in the back of a yellow taxi on my way to the office, the window down and I can't help but smile to myself. After a long, peaceful night of sleep, I am feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day full force. I could smell the salty scent of rain and knew that a rainstorm was on the way and soon the sun will be swallowed whole by the dark endless clouds.

As we pull up to the curb across the street from the large Austen Enterprise building, I pay my fair and step away from the cab, making my way up the walk and into the double doors where I am met with the powerful smell of flowers.

Ally is at the receptionist desk and smiles as I approach. “Hi Kiara, how are you doing today?”

“I’m well,” I reply, offering her a smile. “Thanks for asking.”

She seems to hesitate a little. “I heard about what happened and I am so sorry for your loss, if you need anything please don’t hesitate to ask.”

“Thank you Ally,” I remark over my shoulder, as I pass through the tall metal detectors into the lobby. “Have a good shift!”

I take the elevator, not really feeling like taking a handful of stairs to get to my desk. Once I reach it, I slide onto my ass and login to my computer where I find a number of emails directed to me and begin to sort through them. I ignore the pity stares from my co-workers and try to concentrate on nothing but my own work.

I am confused when a younger woman walks through our department, she isn't anyone that I know -- but she acts like she's been here before, almost as though she owns the place. Her heels clacked against the walnut flooring, making it very distracting to pay any attention at all to getting work done.

The woman stops beside Kaiden, who is standing next to our printer, discussing the print out with our main designer, Rob. The woman interrupts their conversation, her red hair falling over her dark suit as she pushes it over her shoulder.

Curious, I print my own documents and head toward the printer, wanting to get a better look at her entirely.

Kaiden glances at her, his eyes dark. "You must be the reporter?"

I could make out his voice as I neared. Clearly trying to act as though I am doing nothing more than getting my documents -- if only that was the truth.

"I guess you can say that I am." She smiles, her lips covered in a dark cherry red.

He nods. "Very well." Handing the papers back to Rob he says, "We can take this back to my office."

Office?

I am so not getting jealous over this. He's the CEO he is going to have a lot of reporters showing up out of nowhere to interview him.
