I'm back in Jasper's bedroom. Sitting on his desk with blood, snot, and tears running down my chin. I try to stay strong. Any minute now, my friends will burst through the door and set me free. Jasper's cruel laugh reaches my ears and he sneers at me.

"No one will come to help you. You've burned all your bridges. No one cares about a pathetic bitch like you."

Then he backhands me across the face before forcing two fingers into my pussy. I scream at his assault on me. Where the fuck are they?

"Pen, wake up." The words sound like they're coming from far away.

“This is what you deserve, you cursed bitch”. While his menacing words bite, my biggest fear is that I'm left here alone. No one is coming to my rescue, just like with Mom. I'm all alone.

"Pen, baby, you have to wake up."

I scream out as I feel my body being lifted. I know I am not strong enough to fight off Jasper, but I'm sure as fuck going to try. As my eyes fly open, it's not Jasper touching me. It's Eric. I'm not in Jasper's cursed bedroom, I'm in my own, and Eric is the only one here.

It was just a dream.

I cry silently into Eric's chest as he holds me, telling me everything's okay, that no one can hurt me here. And maybe no one else can, but my subconscious sure as fuck is trying. What a fickle bitch one's own mind can be. Eric doesn't say anything, only holding me close until my tears dry up. I finally start relaxing against him.

"Why did you go to bed alone?" There's no accusation in his voice, only worry.

"I-I didn't want to interrupt you," I mumble my weak-ass excuse, even I can't deny just how stupid it was. "I did try to stay awake."

"What the hell am I going to do with you?" His words might have stung if I didn't know they came from a place of love and concern. But when they're delivered with a kiss to my temple, there's no way to misunderstand it for anything else.

"I'm sorry." I'm too ashamed of my own stupidity to look at him. So much for my bath providing me clarity and perspective.

"Don't be sorry. Just... I need you to let me be here for you and to be honest with me." I just nod because really, what can I say? It's not like he's being unreasonable. "What were you reading?" Eric picks up the book that I was reading earlier, now lying next to where I was sleeping just a few minutes ago.

"The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd." He chuckles at my answer, not that I can blame him. I've read the poem by Sir Walter Ralegh about as many times as we've watched The Butterfly Effect.

"If all the world and love were young,

And truth in every Shepherd’s tongue,

These pretty pleasures might me move,

To live with thee, and be thy love."
