“Can we stay there overnight?” she asked. “I could sure use a good night’s sleep in a comfortable bed.” Jess looked at Bodine who shook his head negatively.

“No, that town is rife with trouble,” replied Jess. “We’ll stop just long enough to resupply up and get a hot meal, but that’s it.” Melinda sat back in the seat and frowned.

“And I could use a hot bath, too!” she hollered up at the top of the coach. Jess smiled at Bodine when he said it.

“McCaughan, make sure you buy a few chunks of soap in Waldon,” he remarked.

“Why?”

“Because there is a nice river about five miles southwest of Waldon,” replied Jess. “Anyone who needs a bath can take one there.”

“Alright,” agreed McCaughan as Melinda leaned back against the back of the seat, a look of frustration on her face.
