Chapter Ten
Ten-thirty and Rock was about ready to crawl out of his own skin.
The appointment wasn't until eleven-thirty, and it shouldn't take more than forty-five minutes or so
to get there, but he wanted to leave enough time for finding parking. He wasn't going to be late to
this. He was going to go, find out what the story was, and get out.
There was a lobster place just up the road from the cottage they were staying in and he was
planning on treating Rig to a fine surf and turf dinner, and they were going to start having some
fun. But first...
Growling a little, he stood, stretched, and rolled his neck back and forth, trying to ease the stiffness.
Goddamn, he wished Grandma'd just taken him out of the will like everyone else had. "I guess it's time to get going." Sooner he did this, the sooner he was back here with Rig, implementing his
dinner plans.
Rig's hands landed on his shoulders, working him good and hard. "You sure you don't want
company, Marine? I'm happy to tag along."
He shook his head, ready to tell Rig no again, even as those hands eased the hardness in his
muscles. He didn't want to drag Rig into this. Wouldn't. "Yeah, okay." He snorted at himself.
"Cool. Let me put on a good shirt." Lord, his cowboy was going to stick out like a big, sore, Southern thumb.
He rolled his eyes, but nodded. "I'll wait out by the car." Because he couldn't just stand around waiting anymore. He was too keyed up.
The sun shone outside, bright and cheery. It made him growl. Rig should be out on the beach
enjoying this. Hell, they both should have been. He stood by the car, glowering at the road.
Rig didn't take but a minute, coming out in a snow-white shirt, good straw hat on his head. Fuck,
those were even the dress boots.
He just shook his head and climbed into the car. They weren't going to know what to make of Rig.
It made him smile as he started up the car. "You can navigate," he told Rig, nodding at the map on the dashboard.
He knew where he was going, but figured it would give Rig something to do.

"Surely." Rig grinned and did just that, easy as you please. He kept waiting for Rig to push and Rig just didn't.
He grunted, pleasantly surprised, easing a little.
The car ate up the miles, each one bringing them closer to this meeting with the lawyer. With his
father and who knew who all. He hadn't seen his mother and father in... well not since he'd joined
up. His hands went tight on the steering wheel, his foot pressing down on the accelerator.
Rig watched him, one eyebrow lifted. "You want to stop and get a Coke? We're making good
time."
He eased up on the gas, looked around, surprised to see they were already at the edge of town.
"Yeah, okay."
The street the lawyer was on had a bunch of stores and stuff on it, and he figured there'd be
somewhere to eat there. A few
