Since we’re headed to the same place, I offer a pick Piper up, and she accepts. Whereas I opted for an over the top penthouse, Piper lives in a mansion in one of Vegas’ most exclusive suburbs, complete with sprawling gardens, tennis courts, and an Olympic sized swimming pool.

I can’t believe she has this and opted for a BMW.

Victor pulls into her elaborate driveway and honks the horn. She walks out a few minutes later, wearing a dress I’m not too happy about my friends seeing her in.

“Don’t you have anything a little more conservative?” I grumble.

She lets out a hoot. “Since when is it your business how much skin I show? Besides, this is a two thousand-dollar Chanel dress. It oozes class.”

“Fine.” I concede. “So long as that’s all that’s oozing. What is it with you hanging around us lately?” I add, throwing her a look.

“Nothing.” She shrugs and glances out the window. “I used to hang out with you guys a lot.”

“I know, but then you grew too good for us, remember?”

She shrugs. “I guess I just realized how important family is, since you're the only person I have left now.”

Even though I’m pretty sure she’s manipulating me, I feel bad for questioning her. I know I'm not the easiest person to be around sometimes, because I close myself off. I never thought how that might be for Piper to deal with.

“And what about you?” she asks.

“What about me?”

“Come on, you’ve been going on secret dates, and from what I hear paying an awful lot of attention to a particular female, who you’ve yet to me introduce me to.”

“How do you know all of this?” I ask with a laugh.

“It’s my job as your sister to know everything.”

“Well, trust me; there's nothing happening,” I assure her.

“I get the feeling that’s not by choice?” she teases.

“It's a long story, and I'd rather not go into it right now.”

“Fine.” She waves her hand dismissively. “We can save it for another night. Hey, let's do dinner. We can make it a regular thing?”

“Uh, sure?” I say, not sure what’s gotten into her. “Come over tomorrow night if you like. I’ll cook.”

Piper laughs. “Since when do you cook?”

“Hey, I'm a new age guy.” I pretend to be hurt. “I can manage to throw a few things together.”

“I'll believe that when I see it.”
