Many read this story of Job and question God offering Job to be tested with such suffering. It’s hard to reconcile a loving Father allowing this. But it’s good to wrestle through the notion of a concept called retributional theology. Think of it as a transactional relationship with God that is directly tied to my behavior. If I do right, God will bless me. If I do wrong, God will curse me. However, the story of Job proves that this is not the way God operates! Instead, God uses the events in the life of Job to show us there’s a greater purpose in everything we face that we may or may not ever know on this side of eternity. As a matter of fact, though the blessings in Job’s life are restored, he never knows why all of this happened to him. Yet in the end he remains faithful.

But make no mistake, Job was not a robot. He was not superhuman. And, he very much struggled in the process.
