Chapter 13

A week had passed since Spencer foolishly, stupidly, and inexplicably had handed himself over to Jamie Salinger. The day after, he'd avoided going anywhere near the new shop, and stayed holed up in his own, sending Ellie out for food. She'd eyed him quizzically but had taken the money and gone to fetch what he'd wanted. Bernard had tried to ask him what was going on, but he'd been uncharacteristically short with him--with everyone. Not fit company, really.

But he hadn't wanted to be alone, either. Being alone meant he had to think, and if he thought too much his thoughts would drift back to that moment he'd foolishly, stupidly, and inexplicably let Salinger have him.

It didn't help he'd loved every second of it, that his blood had rushed with a fire he hadn't felt in ages, that his heart and cock had thumped so damn hard for the looks, the touches, the commands Salinger had given him.

Dammit.

Spencer sat now at his drawing table in the back of the office, which, unfortunately, was right next to the sofa. The sofa, that he still swore smelled like Salinger whenever he sat on it.

Dammit.

He forced his attention back to his drawing. He'd been spending all his spare time drawing lately, pouring all his jumbled thoughts and worries into his art. That it had been going very well didn't soothe him any--did he need to be buggered regularly in order to be creative?

He paused, pulling back to study the shading he'd been doing. He liked this piece, hadn't worked on it in a while and now wondered why he'd stopped. Of course, he knew the answer to that--it now lived in London. Tim had never cared much for his drawing, thinking it a waste of time, just like the shop.

Lunch time was over, he supposed. He left his drawing and walked back to the front of the shop. Ellie was sitting on the floor braiding Killy's hair. Poor, patient dog. She'd been around a lot this week, which had also helped.

The comic shop had been fairly busy over the weekend because of a science fiction con at the Millenium Center. But these fans didn't seem to have much to spare in the way of change to spend on comics, most coming in and looking around, browsing through the different comics and the few action figures he had--he'd bought a few extra on what credit he'd had left when he'd heard the con was coming. Some had come to see the Torchwood shrine, others to go into Crescent Moon Comics and then leave again.

The first few people he saw walking by carrying bright red, yellow, and blue logo bags made him frustrated, the next ones angry, and the final ones had him blocking his view of the passageway with a magazine rack. By the end of the weekend if he'd only made a hundred quid in sales he wouldn't be surprised. He wasn't sure how much longer he could go on like this.

The only bright spot of every day had been when OneKnightStand emailed him.
