CHAPTER 6

THE MANUSCRIPTS SPEAK

A HISTORICAL INVESTIGATION

My search for answers led me to an extensive examination of historical context and manuscripts of the Injeel.

I discovered that the Injeel is highly revered among Christians. They have taken great care in protecting it from corruption. The history of the Injeel can be divided into three historical time periods:

A. Eyewitness Stage

B. Persecution Stage

C.Translation Stage

A. EYEWITNESS STAGE (0–100 A.D.)

Prophet Jesus (pbuh) was born to the Virgin Mary as a miracle from God. His birth was foretold by prophets such as Isaiah.

Virgin Birth Foretold

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14

City Foretold

But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.

Micah 5:2

In the above verses, you can see that the coming of Prophet Isa (Jesus the son of Mary) was prophesied hundreds of years in advance. The Tawrat was clear that the Messiah would come to lead people to the truth of God’s law.

Jesus the Son of Mary was the promised Messiah of the Jews.

The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “‘We have found the Messiah’ (that is, the Christ).”

John 1:41

This same Jesus was sinless from birth and a leader of many believers. He raised the dead and healed the sick. His teachings and words were recorded in the book Al-Injeel.

Al-Injeel is Arabic for the Greek word “Evangelion.” Jesus and his followers spoke Koine Greek, the trade language under the Roman Empire. Scholars also agree that Jesus understood and spoke at least three languages: Koine Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew.

Manuscripts

At present, no one has found the original copies of any religious texts. We do not have the original, physical copy of Al-Qur’an Al-Karim, nor do we have Uthman’s copy.

We also do not have the original, physical copy of the Tawrat, Zabur, or Injeel today. What we do have are manuscripts that were hand-copied and passed from one generation to another.

The scribes were serious about copying the Injeel because it was God’s word to enlighten humans. The Injeel warned them against tampering with the revelation of God in any way.

I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

Revelation 22:18–19

EYEWITNESSES TO EVENTS IN THE INJEEL

While eyewitnesses to Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection were still living, any misrepresentation of Jesus’ teachings or character would have been rejected. These people knew the truth.

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished
