"Come on." Gunner grabbed her by the hand and pulled her down the stairs. "I've been waiting for you. Is Andrew asleep?"

She nodded, trying to keep up with his long strides as he half-pulled, .half-carried her down the hall. "He and Steven played so hard today, he dropped off almost immediately. Where are we going? Is something wrong?"

"Nope." He pulled her through the kitchen and out on the back porch. "Not a thing in the world. It's just time for us to play now."

"Gunner, I told you last night—"

"And wasn't I wonderfully understanding and forebearing?" He grinned over his shoulder as he pulled her down the porch steps. "I didn't come to your room last night, and today I've been so discreet, I think I should qualify for sainthood."

"Why do I feel that your discretion is now a thing of the past?" she asked warily as Gunner guided her toward the stream.

"Well, I thought about it and decided I'd be doing you a disservice if I let you run the show. You need someone to ripple your quiet, placid waters." He gestured toward the paddle wheel several yards from where they were standing. "Like that paddle wheel. Now, this is a pretty little stream, but it becomes interesting only when the paddles dip into the water and churn it up a little." He smiled down at her in the moonlight, his face alive with sensuality and wicked mischief. "Like I'm going to churn you, Quenby."

Quenby experienced a melting heat between her thighs as she looked at him. His hair was shimmering like the moonlight itself, and there was a tension about his slim body that oozed sexuality. So much for her good sense and firm resistance, she thought. All the man had to do was to smile at her and-the memories of those hours of passion yesterday were making her tremble with anticipation. She made an effort to keep her voice calm, but even to herself she sounded breathless. "And what if I don't want to be 'churned'?"

"Then I'll let the stream go its own way, flowing smooth and serene." His voice lowered to a seductive whisper. "And unutterably bored, love." His fingers were quickly unbuttoning her blouse. "But you really should let the paddle wheel do its work. You'll find it much more stimulating." He undid her bra and pushed it and the blouse off her shoulders to fall to the bank of the stream. "You were never meant to meander along without any surprises to challenge you." He paused, looking down at her intently. "Did you think about me last night while you were alone in your bed?"

"Yes." Her answer was only a level above a whisper. She had lain in bed aching, burning with a hunger as intense as if she had never had him, as if it were all ahead of her. "I wanted you."

"Did I ever tell you how much I love that honesty of yours? It's a constant delight to me." He stepped back and looked at her, his gaze lingering on her engorged breasts.
