The key to your ideas space is renewal. Every couple of months or so, change the space around – this does not have to be drastic. Use some throws to change the colour scheme, replace pictures and images with new ones, and bring new Random Sparks into play.

Don’t just rely on a single ideas space to transform your business environment. Use other communal areas to reinforce the message that ideas are paramount. For example, put a Random Spark on a shelf above the water cooler, and change this every couple of days. Or why not put a shelf of Random Sparks in reception, to really broadcast the creativity message? And what about putting a whiteboard in the kitchen, scribbling up a current challenge and asking people to jot down anything that comes to mind? It is surprising how fertile a mind can be when it is hanging around waiting for the kettle to boil. Don’t worry about the odd funny comment; provoking laughter is a great way to get the brain into a creative state.
