The two products you can use without paying are Skype and Google Hangouts. With either of these products, you will need to have installations on your computer and on the guest’s computer. Google Hangouts are part of the Google application set so anyone can use it once they have a Google account. For Skype, both parties must go to Skype and download the software (http://www.skype.com/en/). Both will also need a webcam and/or headphones and a camera attached to the computer.

You will also want to test the equipment before you do the interview, especially if you expect an audience. Do a test run with your guest and check for lighting, sound and background. I will not cover using Google Hangouts or Skype in this book, but there are many resources to learn these technologies. Look for a book in the near future describing using these tools.
