5 Specialization and Regional Development in Brazil

Urbanization is closely intertwined to recent trends in Brazilian regional development in relation with the changes in the pattern of regional economic specializations: for this reason, we have integrated the economic data concerning the population employed in different sectors of activities in 2000 and 2010 (5 IBGE macrosetores, Table 7). Cities larger than 10,000 inhabitants in 2010 together account for more than 90% of the national GDP and formal employment in Brazil.Table 7Number of employees and gini index for macro-sectors of activity
