I thought that was a brilliant speech. What would be the consequences if he is right in his pessimistic assumptions?

It depends on what level you look at the consequences. I think the most pessimistic scenario is one in which France would be increasingly dissatisfied with the policy she has herself promoted. In that case the bad consequences would be at the level of French national life because, after all, France is not absolutely keyed to the European agenda. The overall consequences for Europe would probably be rather small. I mean Europe will be able to find its equilibrium without an active French role, as Europe has done in the past. I think the most negative consequences would be domestic consequences very much like in other periods of French history, including recent periods.
