SODA, JUICES, AND OTHER SWEETENED DRINKS
There are several ways to conserve cash on these beverages:
SODA STOCKPILING. When you do purchase soda, stock up when your favorite brand is on sale.
BE BRAND-FLEXIBLE. Some soda brands tend to go on sale more often than others. This is one category where you can really save money by giving up your brand loyalty.
STORE-BRAND SAVINGS. Additionally, you can save even more by purchasing store-brand products. Most come with a money-back guarantee. If you donât like the taste, you can return it for a full refund.
BOTTLE SERVICE. Two-liter bottles (or even three-liter bottles, sold at some dollar stores) are an economical choice as long as you can consume it before it goes flat and it doesnât encourage you to drink more than you usually would have.
READ THE FINE PRINT. You may think youâre doing yourself a favor by loading up on juices, but read the labels carefully. Some are merely made of high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavorings, and very little actual juice. Labels like âfruit drink,â âfruit flavored,â âfruit beverage,â or âfruit cocktailâ all are indications that youâre getting something less than 100 percent fruit.
GO STRAIGHT FOR THE SOURCE. Donât buy the juice! Eating the fruit itself instead of drinking juice will yield all the same nutrients as well as fill you up because of the added fiber content.
100 PERCENT OR NOTHING. If you do enjoy juice, 100 percent orange juice from concentrate is a healthy yet economical choice.
SIZE-WISE. Portion control is another key. A normal serving of juice is six to eight ounces for an adult, four to six ounces for a child.
