Popular among the surfing set, naturists and more independent travellers generally, Cala Torta is a scallop-shaped bay with cliff paths connecting it to other, still more secluded beaches. It’s got a cool vibe, and the water is beautiful since it gets little by way of passing boats. There is no development whatsoever for miles. To the uninitiated it can seem a little brackish because of the sheer abundance of posidonia, a Mediterranean sea grass, but it’s harmless, and indeed desirable since it prevents the beach from eroding. Unfortunately it isn’t entirely pleasing to the eye when there’s a lot of it washed up on the beach, but you can always find a clear patch for getting in and out of the water, and it tends to remain in the shallows. Seclusion aside, the other reason for visiting Cala Torta is lunch. The eponymous bar, see 2, is nothing more than a wooden shack on stilts, but it serves some of the best grilled fish on the island.
