Chapter 13

Jada

I made it back in town Sunday night, and all I wanted was my bed. After my plan of getting Jersey reprimanded backfired, I packed a bag and went to Memphis for the weekend. With the way Azeem was blowing up my phone, I knew that he already found out what I had done. She whooped my ass, and there was no denying that. I had a black eye, a busted lip, and I had to take my weave out because my head was so sore. When she threw me against the bookshelf, it felt like my scalp was on fire. After security dragged me out, I got the hell outta dodge. Omari and I were gonna have to figure out a different way to get them apart. I was hoping by me causing havoc, she would get mad enough to leave him alone so her job would be secure.

I knew Azeem would pop up on me sooner or later, and I was gonna have to be on my A game. From the voicemails that he left, I could tell that he was pissed at me. When he threatened to cut me off financially and take Asia, I knew that I had fucked up big time. Even Omari was mad at me when I told him what I did. He felt like I was stupid as hell for trying to mess with Jersey’s career. I could’ve gotten her suspended or even worse, fired. All I wanted to do was hurt her a little bit, but I wasn’t expecting it to go that far. Maybe I shouldn’t have put my finger in her face, but when she made that statement about her being more of a mother than me I got in my feelings because she was right. I knew it was wrong, but at the time, I didn’t care.

If Omari wanted to get her back, he was gonna have to make it happen. It was obvious that her and Azeem were happy together, and I could tell by the glow on her face that day. I was jealous, and I wasn’t hiding it by any means. I was knowing that he was doing everything with her that he used to do with me. Hell, he was doing way more with her than me. I was beginning to rethink my decision of trying to ruin them. I didn’t want karma coming back to bite me in the ass.

Over the past few years, I’d become a horrible person, and I had no one to blame but myself. I was selfish, ungrateful, and mean. I hadn’t been the greatest mother or girlfriend, and again, it was my fault. All Azeem wanted from me was to love him, be faithful, and take care of Asia, but I couldn’t even do that.

“What is it now, Jada?” Omari said rudely unto the phone like I was irritating him.

“I can’t do this anymore. I want out of your plans, Omari. I can’t have this on my conscious anymore.
