She explained her politics clearly too, in a “coming-out letter” to her parents: “Don’t ask yourselves where you went wrong bringing me up. That’s not what makes women love other women instead of men. Women are just more accessibly loveable right now because they’re learning to believe in themselves. To hide this from you would be to deny myself.” S got more involved in the women’s scene. “An Open Letter To The × Women’s Centre,” which she wrote under that title in 1977, shows her position evolving:
